Bay Area Tejanos Presents:
|
Latest News:
Q-Vo Gente! The recent heat wave hitting us here in Northern Califas had me trapped inside the house with the A/C going full blast. Cayate, si me salgo para afuera me va dar un desmayo. My California raised butt can't take the Texas style heat anymore. It's all good though. The Pacific Ocean is finally rolling in to cool things off. And I have me a good bottle of Patron. I'm not done with it yet, so vamos a ver como me sale este cosa. If I offend anyone by writing while pedo (WWP), let me say it in advance.. TOO BAD! Porque ya saben como soy :) From the looks of things, Fathers Day weekend was a great time around the Bay Area. Lots of happenings to honor all the Dads. but the best is just right around the corner with the Cotati Accordion Festival. followed by the Sacramento Conjunto Festival in September. Chisme has it that Jay Perez, Bob Gallarza, Don Flaco Jimenez, Hometown Boys, and many more will be in here this summer to light up the night. No hombre, que padre. It's gonna be crack'n around North Califas! Before I go any further, I'd like to say a few things. First, a huge round of applause to all the folks who make these events possible, and that includes you Ramona Landeros. It takes a huge sacrifice in time and money to pull these off. With that said, it is important that we support these events. At the very least, all promoters need to make sure that when s/he locks in a date for an event, all precautions are taken to ascertain there is no conflict with another regional or national scale event. Otherwise we are splitting crowds and resources. And I'm not talking about the mid July gigs in San Antonio and Las Vegas. But if the shoe fits, then wear it. Folks, this is counter-productive to the Tejano mission. And I say this with all sincerity and hope you understand that it has taken time to re-build the Tejano scene here in Northern California. Your Bay Area Tejanos, a Non Profit Corporation is focused on the promotion of the Tejano Cultural Arts, and we are willing to lend a hand where ever and whenever we can. What we do is a labor of love.. And so should everyone who purports to care about the Tejano Music scene. And remember.. As Tejanos. we either stand united or hang divided. Nuff said on the issue. A few more things y dejaré de hablar. A huge thanks to all of you who sent love, prayers, and offers of help for my son Mark. He is still wheelchair bound, but in good spirits and the doctor says the long term prognosis is very good. Gracias a Diosito. The other thing I wanted to say is that I really appreciate the emails from the bands and BAT members who take the time to send in the latest schedule of gigs around the Bay. (And especially you Pauline Balden, Roberto Payne, Dolores Almaguer, Ben Coronado, and Joe Olguin). And before I forget. I received an email from a young lady saying, "It is sad that even though you can still move those feet the men are 'holding up their beers' and won't ask you to dance. Maybe next time! I sure wish they would dance. We women don't want to get involved, but it is nice to have a male dancing partner!! Best Wishes and again Thank You!!" So there you have it gentlemen. I couldn't have said it more succinctly. And I think that means me too as I am usually seen networking at the events, rather than dancing with all the lovely ladies. So if you see a Tejanita and she looks bored, please take her out for a spin. Aunque me den una palisa bruta cuando llege a la casa, I promise to do my part too. Otherwise the ladies will stop coming and for sure us guys will have to dance with each other. Lord have mercy. Porque yo no quiro bailar con ese Mando "Hollywood" Garza. Esta muy chaparro y prieto. Sorry mano.. You know I'm teasing :) So lets get those wagons moving guys! Abrazos,
